Weihe
Leads Annies’ Track in First Year with Team
Coming
into his first year as the head girls track
coach of the Centralia Annies, Andrew Weihe has
one question on his mind, “Are we doing the
best we can do?” Weihe, who is in his first
year at Centralia High School as a science
teacher as well as an assistant football coach,
learned about the dynamics of running track as a
former participant. He used track to prepare for
football, but he quickly gained an appreciation
for the sport’s competitiveness. Some of his
favorite events include both the triple jump and
middle distance running events.
Weihe
expects to have about twenty-five to thirty
girls competing for his team this year. He
expects the girls to work hard every day, but to
have fun and really try to compete with the
other teams while they do that. His main goal
for the season is to improve overall and begin
the building of a very good girls track program
at Centralia High School.
While
the season is just underway and the team has
only had a limited number of practices, Weihe
has an idea of what some of his girls will be
able to do for the team. Both Chelsea Miller and
Anna Fields will compete in middle distance
events. Candice Atkins will take on the jumping
and sprinting duties, with Jessica Logan
sprinting as well. Morgan Spears will show off
her abilities with the disc, while Hannah Shores
and Alyssa Evans will handle the hurdles.
The
future looks bright for this group of girls.
With hard work and competitiveness, the Annies’
track team has the potential to have a very good
year. As coach Weihe explained, all they have to
do is make sure that they are doing the best
that they can do.
