Course Description:

 

Students will learn keying skills in order to interact with the computer and to develop competencies for personal use.  Basic computer operation will be learned as students become acquainted with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

 

 

Course Goals:

 

1.     Students will key using correct technique and the touch system.

2.     Students will use proper language skills in composing and keying documents.

3.     Students will format memos, personal/business letters, reports, and tables correctly.

4.     Students will become familiar with basic word processing skills.

5.     Students will spell check and proofread to ensure correct documents.

6.        Students will key a minimum of 18 words a minute on a five-minute straight-copy timed writing with no more than 12 errors.

7.     Students will learn the basic uses of the Internet.

This course is designed to provide students with a sound fundamental introduction to the world of management and the skills needed to operate a successful business.  It provides challenges faced in this rapidly evolving business environment.  The course will stress concepts of management, marketing, finance, human relations, and communication skills.

 

Course Goals:

 

1.        Students will acquire a working vocabulary of common business terms.

Course Description:

 

Students will learn and build on keying skills in order to interact with the computer and to develop competencies for personal and business use.  Basic word processing skills will be developed while keying reports, letters, memos, and tables.  Students may enroll and receive dual credit (without charge) with Kaskaskia College for OFTC 110 Keyboarding I (3 Hours Credit).

 

Course Goals:

 

1.        Students will key using correct technique and the touch system.

2.        Students will format memos, personal/business letters, reports, and tables correctly.

3.        Students will master basic word processing skills.

4.        Students will spell check and proofread to ensure correct documents.

5.        Students will key a minimum of 20 corrected net words a minute on a five-minute straight-copy timed writing with no more than 5 uncorrected errors.

Course Rules and Policies:

 

Rules:

Show all students and teachers respect.

Eyes kept on copy

Wrists low but off the desk

Feet flat on floor

Sit straight in chair/back straight

Elbows relaxed at side

Use correct fingers for each key

Keep up with due dates and turn in all assignments when they are due

 

Make-up Work:  See CHS handbook section titled MAKE-UP WORK

Cheating/Plagiarism:  See CHS handbook section titled CHEATING/PLAGIARISM.  Students will also loose their dual-credit with Kaskaskia College if caught cheating or plagiarizing.

Tutoring/Extra Help:  Extra help is usually available before school, during supervision, and after school; however, students should pre-arrange a meeting time with their individual teacher.

Final Exam:  There is a final exam given in this course.  It is made up of 5 sections:  Word Processing, Memorandum, Business Letter, Report, and Timed Writing.  The final exam is worth 20% of the students’ semester grade.
